Leads the executive, represents the chamber to government and partners, and chairs board meetings.
For more than 25 years, ECCI has been the unified advocate, network, and resource hub for the businesses of Region 2 — Pomeroon-Supenaam.
The Essequibo Chamber of Commerce & Industry exists to advance the private sector of Region 2. We do that three ways — by giving our members one unified voice in the rooms where decisions are made, by building the networks that turn local businesses into regional partners, and by curating the training, programmes, and resources that fuel growth.
"Moving Business Forward" isn't a slogan. It's the lens we apply to every meeting with regional officials, every member event, every training workshop, every press release — and every certificate we hand to a new business joining our ranks.
ECCI was established in 1998 by a group of business owners who recognised that Essequibo — one of Guyana's most productive regions — needed a coordinated voice. From rice and coconut farms in the Pomeroon, to retailers in Anna Regina and Charity, to growing tourism on the islands, the region's private sector was driving economic activity but lacked a single platform to engage government, attract investment, and exchange knowledge.
Since then ECCI has grown from a handful of founding members into a multi-sector chamber representing dozens of businesses, partnered with national institutions including the Guyana Revenue Authority, the Small Business Bureau, and the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
Advocacy. We engage the Regional Democratic Council, the Transport & Harbours Department, GRA, ministries, and other agencies on behalf of our members — coordinating positions, conveying concerns, and pressing for action on the issues that affect Region 2 businesses.
Events & Networking. Our flagship Agro & Trade Expo, the Business Mix at Jaigobin Hotel, and quarterly stakeholder meetings bring members together with peers, partners, and policymakers — turning Essequibo's business community into a connected network.
Training & Capacity-Building. Compliance workshops, business toolkits, and joint programming with the Small Business Bureau and other institutions, focused on the practical skills that grow Essequibo enterprises.
Visibility. Member directory listings, joint marketing, press engagement, and digital channels that put Essequibo businesses on the regional and national stage.
The Essequibo private sector is the engine of Region 2's economy. Our job is to make sure that engine has the policy environment, the partnerships, and the platform it needs to grow.— ECCI Executive
